I'm Rachel, your boudoir photographer in Bellingham, Washington. I give you the space & time to exist in and enjoy your own skin.
Before we can explore the top reasons for doing a boudoir session, we have to talk about what boudoir sessions are.
With me, at Lunar Rose Boudoir, these sessions are experiences. It’s a chance to hang out with yourself away from everything else and look damn good doing it. It’s not dirty, it’s not illegal, and it’s not designed with the male gaze in mind.
Boudoir is an empowering art form, and much like every person is different, people have different reasons for booking a boudoir session! In my experience, the majority of people have one of six reasons for doing a boudoir session.
If you want to learn more or book your own session, click here to send me an email and we’ll get started!
The top 6 reasons to do a boudoir session are:
Let’s dig a little deeper into each one of these reasons:
Reason number one to do a boudoir session is obviously for yourself.
This one is top of the list when I ask people why they want to book a boudoir experience: they want to do something nice for themselves!
A boudoir experience is the ultimate in self-love, self-care, and all of the “feel good” stuff you’re craving. Indulge in something beautiful, celebratory, and fun. For no other reason than “you’re awesome, and you should revel in that.”
I’ll be the first to put my hand up and say that I could be better about celebrating. I’m often so focused on “achieving a goal” that once I get there, I’m already thinking about the next one.
But what I’ve been doing lately is practicing slowing down. Taking the time to celebrate something I’ve accomplished, acknowledge a milestone in my life, or truly enjoy literally anything in the present moment.
Hobbiton over Hustle, baby.
The point is: your life deserves celebration. You, as a human, deserve celebration. And a boudoir experience is a pretty great way to do that.
…Ok how great would it be to receive a gift like this?
Think about it:
You receive this big, beautifully-wrapped box. It feels kind of heavy like there’s something important inside. You unwrap it, lift off the lid, and pull out a gorgeous album, nestled in a protective cloth wrap. You open up the album and flip through page after lay-flat page of the love of your freaking life, looking like they’re enjoying every minute of showing you how unbelievably stunning they are.
Woof.
This is a big reason to do a boudoir session, and it’s interesting to me because so many people get this backward at first.
You don’t need to wait for some indeterminate time in the future when you’re “confident enough to do boudoir.”
It’s the other way around! Boudoir experiences give you that confidence and let you see yourself in a whole new way.
If you’re feeling a wee bit nervous, first of all: you aren’t alone.
For the majority of people, getting partially or fully unclothed in front of a stranger isn’t part of the usual day-to-day, so it’s understandable that you’d have a jitter or two.
Which I’d argue is a pretty good reason to do a boudoir session. To lean into something that scares you a wee bit. Practicing things like that can, quite honestly, change your life.
Another benefit of boudoir sessions is actually something of a side effect: some people find themselves releasing emotional baggage or processing something they didn’t know they needed to or letting go of that last piece of whatever was bothering them.
Vulnerability will do that for you.
When was the last time you had some uninterrupted time to yourself to just exist?
And when did you actually take advantage of that?
No random doom scrolling on your phone, no worrying about work or life, just existing.
A boudoir experience is all of that and more. The rest of the world disappears for a little while, and you don’t have to worry about anything you’ve been carrying lately. You don’t even have to think about it. You have the opportunity to focus only on yourself, and I can’t recommend that enough.
On top of all of the experience-based reasons to do a boudoir session, let’s talk about the tangibles.
Every time you open your album or look at your framed prints, you get to relive your boudoir experience.
Photos have a way of transporting us back in time and reminding us how we felt. Printed photos add an extra level of connection and tangibility that’s difficult to describe until you’re holding them in your hands.
All of the artwork from your boudoir experience is archival quality and will last and last and last. I hope the way it feels lasts too, but if you need a top-up, you know where to find me (:
